Plantar warts are so named because they develop within the wide band of flexible tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot known as the plantar fascia. Plantar warts can cause considerable pain and discomfort, especially when you put weight on the affected foot. Fortunately, your foot doctor has a variety of excellent treatments for painful plantar warts.

Treatments for plantar warts include the following:

Sometimes plantar warts will subside on their own, but for more severe cases, some of the standard methods of removal include the following:

1.    Freezing with liquid nitrogen— Liquid nitrogen is carefully applied by your foot doctor to freeze the wart, so it breaks off in larger chunks, combined with acid peeling for quick results.

2.    Skin removal and acid peeling—The high strength acid that your foot doctor has access to are used to remove layers of the wart gradually. Skin removal with a unique debriding tool may also be necessary to expose the wart.

3.    Vaccine therapy—Since the cause of warts is human papillomavirus, an oral vaccine from within can successfully destroy the virus.

If you have severe pain on the bottom of your foot, it may be from a hidden plantar wart, so be sure to make an appointment with your foot doctor for the proper diagnosis and treatment. James C.
