The 4 Best Ways to Prevent Foot Odor

Have you been worried about the upcoming sandal season and whether or not your foot odor will wreak havoc even in open-toed shoes? You’re far from alone! A quick google search will get you thousands of ways people have remedied foot odor on their own, but what you need are the 4 best ways to prevent foot odor from a podiatrist.

REGULAR HYGIENIC PRACTICES:

This seems simple enough, but it’s more involved than you might think! We all shower (hopefully) at least once per day, but those of us with foot odor need to take it up a notch. Start your day with a foot-friendly deodorant spray. End the day by rubbing your feet down (toes included!) with a moist wipe and drying thoroughly.

SPRAYING YOUR SHOES, TOO:

Your armpits and your feet are deodorized now, why not your shoes, also? There are over-the-counter (OTC) sprays you can purchase at most pharmacies specially formulated to deodorize fabrics while being sensitive enough not to irritate our skin. Who doesn’t want to add a little extra fresh scent to their presence, anyway?

REPLACING AND REJUVENATING SHOES:

We get how much you love those old sneakers you’ve had for the last three years, but they probably stink. Throw them in a light wash and air-dry them! However, in addition to having an odor, those shoes probably aren’t as supportive anymore as they should be. Do your feet a favor and get a new pair, especially after adopting new anti-odor habits, to keep yourself fresh even longer.

MOISTURE-WICKING SOCKS:

Lest we forget the importance of a good pair of socks? Regardless of how fancy or supportive your shoes are, the type of socks you choose to wear with them can change everything. If you tend to sweat more often, or if you have trouble kicking foot odor, invest in a pair of moisture wicking socks. In this case, cotton is your foot’s new best friend!
