Athlete’s foot can be cured by anti-fungal ointments or natural home remedies. But prevention will always be a better alternative to treating Athlete’s foot. A few lifestyle habits can go a long way in not only keeping you away from Athlete’s foot but also a lifetime enjoying clean healthy feet.

Signs and Symptoms of Athlete’s Foot

Itching, red, flaky skin can be indications of a fungal infection. Changes in the skin can be a sign that a fungal infection has set in. Athlete’s foot usually develops in skin areas between the toes. This receive the least amount of light, a perfect place where dirt and fungus accumulate and traps sweat. All ideal conditions for developing a fungal infection.

Chronic infection can lead to complications and serious infection.

How to Prevent Athlete’s Foot

Wash your feet regularly and remember to dry it thoroughly. Washing physically removes dirt and fungi while drying gets rids of moisture, a perfect breeding ground for fungus.

If you have a history of recurring Athlete’s foot, prevent reoccurrence by using an anti-fungal spray.

Thick, yellowish and brittle toenails is an indication of a fungal infection. Prevent its spread by treating it immediately.

Change your socks regularly or place it in the laundry after use. Heavy sweaters should replace them twice or even thrice a day to keep their feet dry.

Keep your shoes free from fungus by drying or airing them out. Wash regularly or use shoe powders to kill germs and fungus.

Athlete’s foot is common among athletes or those who participate in sports regularly partly because of the type of shoes they wear. Give your feet a break by wearing sandals to let them breathe.

If treated properly, Athlete’s foot can be gone in as little as a day or just over a week. However, if your infection does not respond to this treatments consulting a podiatrist is advised.
