The Fight Against Athlete's Foot

Athlete's foot is an infection that occurs between the toes. It is fungal and commonly found among people who have sweaty feet. Tight-fitting shoes exacerbate that issue. The athlete's foot will worsen by wearing improper shoes, and you will see a scaly red rash developing quickly. You will experience itching, dryness on the soles of your feet, and it is highly contagious. It can spread to your hands and your other foot, as well as other areas of your body. People with diabetes may also experience this condition.

Athlete's Foot Prevention

Luckily, there are many different ways you can use prevention in other areas of your body. Prevention techniques include the following:

  • Never share your shoes- this will increase the risk of spreading a fungal infection.

  • Don’t reuse your socks-reusing your socks when you have sweaty feet will increase your chances of gaining a rash.

  • Ensure your feet are dry-go barefoot after wearing shoes all day to let your feet dry out. Dry your feet and toes well after a bath or anytime you get them wet.

  • Don’t reuse your shoes-at most minimal, not every day. Alternate your shoes so your shoes get to dry out too. Another helpful tip when alternating your shoes is to avoid materials that make your feet worse, like rubber.

  • Protecting and treating your feet-when you go to a pool; you should protect your feet. In addition to that, you should use an antifungal powder to dry out your feet even further.

If these measures do not affect you, your podiatrist will suggest alternative treatments to help your condition heal. This type of foot condition can be hard to deal with, and it can be highly uncomfortable, but it's not something you have to live with.
